Nothing like a stomach bug to put you flat on your back for a few days. Not sure if it was bad food or just exhaustion. Either way, I was out of commission for a few days.
Keeping food down… that didn’t happen for a while. But the day after, what do you eat without enraging the beast again? I was hungry, but didn’t want to risk going through…. losing it again. That’s when being married to a guy who used to work in the emergency room comes in handy.
B.R.A.T. Diet
Eat the BRAT diet. Bananas. Rice. Applesauce. Toast. Nice and easy on the tummy and helps in multiple ways.
Bananas
Bananas are full of potassium. This is a huge help when you been… losing fluids. Dehydration really takes it out of you.
Rice
Not just rice though, anything starchy. Potatoes and oats work too. Starchy foods line the stomach and help sooth it.
Applesauce
Applesauce is nice and easy to digest. Apples also provide natural roughage, which can sometimes aid with stomach issues.
Toast
Nice and bland toast. No butter, no jam. Nice and easy on the tummy without causing an acid upset.
Be sure to drink LOTS of clear liquids. Water, 7UP, etc, will help. Dehydration is a big issue with stomach bugs. It’s not always easy to keep it down, but be sure to keep drinking lots of clear liquids.
